This is huge because I haven't posted on our blog for about 2 years. Hopefully I will start to get in the habit.
Why the Yin and Yang? Well, I will tell you that in a bit. What does Ying and Yang mean? In Chinese philosophy, the concept of yin-yang (simplified Chinese: 阴阳; traditional Chinese: 陰陽; pinyin:yīnyáng), which is often called "yin and yang", is used to describe how seemingly opposite or contrary forces are interconnected and interdependent in the natural world; and, how they give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another. (Wikepedia).
Striving to have balance is important. We have to know the bitter to know the sweet. If you can combine the two opposites like lemons and sugar and add water you have a perfect balance of tangy and sweet lemonade. Sometimes we have to go through periods of lows to experience the highs. Sometimes the answers we want come at times when we least expect. Sometimes what we need is more patience.
Life has been an incredible journey. Instant gratification is not a reality. Patience and sustaining happiness is.
After many years of waiting(but being very busy along the way) Dave and I found each other. We feel that we compliment each other very well in a way that no one else could. We are sooo happy to be together.
After a few years of being married and having lived in 3 different states (Utah, Washington and California) we were stunned and excited to find out that we would become parents. The JOY that we feel has been amazing. Not ONLY did we find out that we would soon be parents, but that we would be having IDENTICAL TWINS. Then we found out that they would be GIRLS!!!!!
My work gave me a baby shower and these plastic shoes were on top of the cake. |
There is no real explanation for the indentical splitting. Identical twins are spontaneous and occur in 1 in 1,000 live births and happen to couples with or without any fertility assistance and are non-genetic.

We opened up an envelope in front of our family via "Google Hangouts". The little girls were facing each other and kicking each other in the legs. It made me laugh and smile. Dave had joked previously about the little girls just playing around and kicking each other. It was the sweetest thing to see their body parts(spine, heart, brain, kidneys, etc) and see all of the movement going on. It was hard to wait to find out the genders, but it was fun and worth it to wait a couple of days.
I joined Dave up in Ashland, Oregon last week where is he running a nursing home. Dave's mom, Kathy and I drove up from California. We drove our new mini van (getting ready for the babies). We had a wonderful time. We stopped in Sacramento and saw Dave's sister, Leah and her little family. It was very fun and nice. I also ran into one of my former roommates, Camille from my Salt Lake days. She was the roommate that I had when Dave and I started dating. She was a great cheerleader for our developing relationship. It was fun to catch up with her. She is also an identical twin herself. Dave was "Worker Man" while Kathy was here in Ashland so we got to hang out a lot together. We went to the Medford Temple (only took us 20 min :)), shopping, hiking, Shakepearean play and out to dinner. Dave was able to sneak away on Saturday and they were able to go on a more adventurous hike together. They are great hiking buddies. We are both so blessed to have great parents.

Dave and I went to our new OBGYN. This is first appt that Dave could go to in 2 mos. Dr. Binette is wonderful. He is a happy man, always wearing a bow-tie. He has been practicing for 31 years. He is also another answer to our prayers. This is another Yin and Yang experience. I felt like my previous OBGYN was like going to a fastfood joint (you need to hurry in and get the heck out of there). Not a lot of personal touch. Dr. Binette was the opposite. He treated us like we were at a 5-Star restuarant.
We told him we like the names, "Gracie and Lacey" for the twins. For the record we are 80% sure these will be their names). For all the doubters out there it was confirmed and we saw with our own eyes that they are definitely two little girls. No chance at all they could be boys. :) I pointed where Grace Katherine (Charm, Graceful, Blessing, and Pure) and Lacey Lyn (Cheerful and Beautiful)were in my tummy.

Dr. Binette answered all of my questions and was very patient. Afterward he gave me a hug and said. "We are going to become good friends." I will start going to see him now every 2 weeks. I will also be seeing a Perinatologist(Maternal-Fetal Medicine ) doctor who works with Dr. Binette, every few weeks to measure the fluids in the babies' amniotic sacs and make sure they are developing at the same rate and should get really good ultrasound pics of the babies. The crazy thing that Dr. Binette said is that our babies are viable in 10 days. In other words if they were to be born in 10 days they would be able to survive outside the womb, but don't worry we have no plans of them coming out for a few more months.
Great post and fun to read all the details. We're so excited for you guys! We love you!!
